How Much Working Time Is This Purchase Worth?
Some purchases don’t fit neatly into a standard category. That’s fine. The same basic question still works: what are you buying, what will it really cost, and how much value do you expect to get from it?
Start with the purpose. A fitness machine, health device, creative tool, or meaningful keepsake can be valuable in completely different ways. What matters is the role it will actually play in your life, not the label attached to it.
Then look past the advertised price. Delivery, accessories, subscriptions, maintenance, insurance, training, and replacement parts can all increase the real cost. If any expenses repeat, calculate them for the length of time you honestly expect to keep using the purchase.
Enter the amount you would actually pay below. Seeing the price as working hours or days gives you a moment to think without pretending that one spending rule works for everything.
